Difference between meridional and skew rays in Optical fiber

Meridional rays

Skew rays

1. Meridional rays are confined to the core axis of the optical fiber.

1. Skew rays tries to follow helical path along the optical fiber ;hence they can not be confined in a single path

2. The paths of meridional rays are easy to track as it lies in a single plane.

2. Skew rays paths are difficult to track as they do not lies in a single plane.

3. Meridional rays can be classified into bound rays and unbound rays

3. No such classification for skew rays
